MIXTAPE: a cover band for hipsters is Cover Band 2.0. Set out to evolve a stagnant industry, MIXTAPE offers a fresh and fetching approach to rocking parties in every way; from the way they engage with clients, to their look, and most importantly to the songs they play.

Actively not your parents' wedding band, MIXTAPE is a disco-free zone with a mantra of "No to the Bee Gees, Yes to the Black Keys!"  The band's infinite repertoire spans from modern indie darlings like Phoenix, MGMT, Arcade Fire and Beck, to classic and glam rockers like the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, AC/DC, and Queen, to ’80s and New Wave gems like Devo, The Cure, Talking Heads and The Clash, to ’90s and grunge favorites like Weezer, Nirvana, The Pixies and Pavement to those special pop hits that we all (including material your parents will remember) can agree are awesome like Paul Simon, Hall & Oates, Stevie Wonder and, of course, Michael Jackson.

“Mixtape played my wedding. No, mixtape ROCKED my wedding. They’re true professionals, a total blast, and really know how to make a celebration as joyous as it can be.”

On the scene since just 2011, the band has already attracted the attention of VOGUE, earned "Best of the Knot" in Manhattan in 2013, 2015 & 2016, blogs for Huffington Post Weddings, and has appeared in BRIDES, Modern Weddings, Style Me Pretty, New York Magazine, WellWedBrooklyn Bride, Green Wedding Shoes, Carats & Cake, and Martha Stewart Weddings. MIXTAPE has played some of the most stunning and prestigious venues such as Blue Hill at Stone Barns, Osborn Castle and Cipriani Wall Street, as well as the hippest and Brooklyn-est venues around like the Bell House, Music Hall of Williamsburg, Santos Party House and City Winery. They even rocked the 2013 US Open! Feel free to check the "News" page for postings about public performances.

“I can say that working with Mixtape was one of the easiest and most spiritually sound decisions we made during our planning process. They made it more than a party, more than a ritual, more than a carrying on of tradition; they made it the kind of transcendent coming-together of souls that everyone wants their wedding to be.”

“They sounded fantastic from start to finish. The mix of motown, classic rock, newer hits and indie music had something for everyone. I think some of the older guests danced more than our younger friends did!”

The band’s most basic six-piece configuration includes female vocalist, male vocalist and rhythm guitarist, lead electric guitarist, electric bassist, keyboardist and drummer. From there, MIXTAPE can add strings and horns for a fun and full sound and look. Comprised of conservatory trained musicians, the band can also provide classical music for ceremonies and jazz or bluegrass or cocktail hours, making for very slick one-stop shopping for wedding music.

“Our guests were on their feet from the minute the music started and didn’t leave the dance floor all night long. I cannot say enough about how amazing it was to have them at our wedding. If your band is a priority, you can’t go wrong with Mixtape. They were a dream”
— Chelsea R.

“Our guests came up to us through the night telling us how fantastic they were and they have never heard a wedding band quite like them.”
— Trindy A.

We're all working musicians outside of MIXTAPE, with our own projects and as sidemen/women with other artists (and often with each other in the band Jesus on the Mainline, among others) and through our personal careers we've played big New York venues like Bowery Ballroom, Joe's Pub, Mercury Lounge, Terminal 5, Brooklyn Bowl and Gramercy Theater as well as television shows like the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Show with Dave Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ellen, Fuze and Saturday Night Live, and great gigs outside of NYC like Fuji Rock, Wells Fargo Arena, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center.

It’s evident hearing this band that all the musicians studied music and aren’t just doing this to make a few extra bucks. They sounded so tight and crisp that you would think they have been playing together for decades...I contribute a lot of the success of my wedding experience (before and during) to Mixtape. I myself, and all of the guests, young and old, danced our asses off all night and that’s exactly what I wanted.
